President Parmelin to visit Kuwait and attend World Governments Summit in Dubai
Berne, 30.01.2026 — At the beginning of next week President Guy Parmelin will pay a visit to the Arabian Peninsula. The first destination will be Kuwait, with which Switzerland this year celebrates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Mr Parmelin will then attend the World Governments Summit in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
On Monday, 2 February, President Parmelin will meet with Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah in Kuwait. The talks are set to cover the anniversary of diplomatic relations, economic relations, peace policy issues and international cooperation. Mr Parmelin will also meet representatives of Swiss companies operating in Kuwait.
On Tuesday, 3 February, the main feature of the programme will be attending the World Governments Summit (WGS) in Dubai. The World Governments Summit is not a traditional political conference, but rather a forum for exchanging knowledge, ideas and models for the future, bringing together representatives from the public sector, business and civil society. Around 30 heads of state and government, 400 ministers and a total of more than 6,000 delegates from over 140 countries are expected to attend. Mr Parmelin will also use the summit, which this year is dedicated to shaping future governments, for bilateral meetings.
