Persons under 18 can obtain an e-ID in two ways:
- A parent orders the e-ID for the child.
- The child starts the application process and obtains the consent of a parent.
The same applies to persons under guardianship.
Important: The parent giving consent must already have their own e-ID.

Starting in summer 2026 at the earliest, you will be able to order the e-ID free of charge in the swiyu Wallet. To do so, you need a valid Swiss identity document (ID card, passport or foreign national identity card).
How it works:
- Install the swiyu Wallet on your smartphone.
- Have your valid identity document ready to confirm your identity. You will scan your document and record a short video of your face.
- If everything is in order, your e-ID will be issued immediately in the swiyu Wallet. The entire process usually takes only a few minutes.
In some cases, an additional in-depth verification may be necessary. This may take a few days.
Identity confirmation on site:
For individuals who are unable to confirm their identity online due to a disability, no fee is charged.

Yes. During the application process, you can add the e-ID to up to 8 devices.
Important: After completing the application process, you cannot transfer the e-ID to additional devices. If you want to use the e-ID on further devices, you must order a new e-ID and add it to all devices at the same time during the application process.

For security reasons, the e-ID can only be issued to multiple devices during the application process.
This prevents unauthorised persons from transferring your e-ID to other devices at a later stage, for example through phishing or other fraud attempts.
