President Keller-Sutter holds talks with President Nawrocki and Prime Minister Tusk in Warsaw

Bern, 13.11.2025 — During her visit to Poland on Thursday, 13 November, President Karin Keller-Sutter met with President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Their talks covered bilateral relations between Switzerland and Poland, the Swiss–European Union (EU) package and broader economic and security policy challenges for Europe.

Switzerland and Poland enjoy very good relations in all areas and these were further intensified in May when the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in education, research and innovation. An important element of bilateral relations is the second Swiss contribution to selected EU member states, of which Poland receives the largest share at CHF 320 million. Both sides commended that cooperation.

Ms Keller-Sutter emphasised Poland's important role within the EU and the value of stable and successful relations between Switzerland and the EU. With a view to the Switzerland–EU package, she outlined the next steps in domestic policy: once the consultation phase closes at the end of October, officials will review the findings before submitting a dispatch to Parliament.

Further topics addressed during the meetings included European competitiveness, transatlantic relations and the risks of new trade barriers for Europe. Ms Keller-Sutter reaffirmed Switzerland's commitment to a rules-based multilateral system. In view of the current global situation, the Bretton Woods institutions, i.e. the IMF and the World Bank, in which Poland and Switzerland belong to the same constituency, play a key role in effective multilateral cooperation.

A further key topic of discussion was the security situation in Europe, in particular the current challenges facing Europe and the prerequisites for a lasting and just peace in Ukraine.
