Ecosystem

The term ‹ecosystem› comes from biology and refers to a community of different organisms (animals, plants, etc.) and their inanimate environment (rocks, soil, water, etc.). Recently, the term has also become very popular in computer science to describe open systems. When applied to the e-ID and the trust infrastructure, the term ‹ecosystem› can be understood as follows. The trust infrastructure forms the basis, just like rock, earth and water in nature. The trust infrastructure is brought to life, i.e. used, by various actors: the bodies issuing electronic credentials, the persons to whom the electronic credentials are issued and the verifiers to whom the electronic credentials are presented. With these actors and the various electronic credentials, new services can be offered which develop the ecosystem further.

Construction is already underway
The federal government is developing the trust infrastructure that forms the basis for the ecosystem and which it will also operate at a later date. You can find detailed information on this under Technology. The federal government is also preparing itself to become an issuer, primarily with regard to the e-ID (fedpol), but also for other electronic credentials. At a cantonal and communal level, an initial group of authorities are also positioning themselves as issuers and verifiers, as are the first companies and other private organisations.

Become part of the ecosystem
Do you represent a public authority or a private institution and do you want to simplify your processes and services and free them from media discontinuities by using electronic credentials? We look forward to hearing from you.
