Parliament adopts the e-ID Act

On the last day of the 2024 winter session, the Council of States and the National Council adopted the Federal Act on Electronic Identity and Other Electronic Credentials in their final votes.

Result of the vote in the National Council: 170 in favour, 25 against, 1 abstention.

Voting result in the Council of States: 43 in favour, 1 against, 0 abstentions.

The e-ID Act is subject to an optional referendum. The referendum period begins with the publication of the E-ID Act in the Federal Gazette, which is planned for 9 January 2025; it is therefore expected to end on 21 April 2025.
