The electronic provisional driving licence (eLDP) is a federal pilot project. The aim of this project is to gain experience for the planned electronic ID (e-ID). Technically speaking, the e-ID would function largely in the same way as the eLDP. More information on the e-ID.

- The learner driver must have passed the theory test.
- The canton in question must have introduced the electronic learner driver permit.

The electronic learner driver permit is available for the following categories:
- A, -A, A1
- B, BE, B1
- C, CE, C1, C1E
- D, DE, D1, D1E

The introduction of the electronic learner driver permit is currently taking place in stages.
By the end of November 2025, the electronic learner driver permit will be available in all cantons.

The e-ID will be introduced at the earliest in the third quarter of 2026. Authorities and companies are also expected to issue other electronic credentials. The electronic driving licence is already under development; it will initially be valid only in Switzerland.
